About the role
A Local Family Links Support Assistant is a familiar local person who gets to know a loved one, their routines and the everyday practical things that matter to them. The role is about helping with small but important things that can otherwise become stressful — from post, household admin and technology to reminders, practical problems, useful services and agreed follow-up.
Support Assistants work calmly, respectfully and in an organised way. Continuity and trust matter: they help loved ones remain involved in decisions and as independent as possible, while following through what has been agreed.
What you may be doing
- Friendly welfare conversations
- Helping a loved one go through post and correspondence
- Support with forms and straightforward household admin
- Helping with everyday technology
- Scam-awareness conversations and checking suspicious correspondence
- Keeping important dates and reminders organised
- Updating the loved one’s LFL calendar
- Researching useful local, statutory or community support
- Making agreed calls or enquiries
- Helping coordinate practical household services
- Following up unfinished actions
- Recording visit notes accurately
- Keeping an authorised trusted person informed where consent allows
- Noticing when another professional or service is the right route
This is practical support — not personal care
A Support Assistant would not provide personal care, administer medication, offer nursing or clinical support, give regulated financial advice, act as an emergency responder or carry out specialist professional assessments. They need to know when to refer or escalate a concern appropriately.

What matters most to us
We would look for people who are dependable, kind, practical and able to follow things through.
You do not need to know everything on day one. What matters is being willing to listen, learn, work within clear boundaries and treat every loved one as an individual.
What working with LFL could offer
As the service grows carefully, future opportunities could involve meaningful local work, continuity with the people you support, structured training and clear boundaries, practical support from LFL management and a small-team environment focused on quality rather than rushed visits.
Specific employment terms, hours, pay and benefits would be confirmed when a formal vacancy is advertised.
Growing carefully, close to home
Future opportunities may suit people who know the local area, value flexible, meaningful work, enjoy practical problem-solving and want to build trusted relationships rather than rush between appointments.
Safer recruitment
Any future appointment would be subject to appropriate checks and training before a Support Assistant works in a loved one’s home. You do not need to have every check or certificate at the expression-of-interest stage.
Before starting work, requirements would include identity and right-to-work checks, satisfactory references, appropriate Enhanced DBS clearance, safeguarding and first-aid training, confidentiality and data-protection preparation, consent and professional boundaries, lone-working and personal-safety training, and any other role-specific training.
